THE STORY SO FAR

Thirty‑six years underground and on the main stage.

  1. 01

    Foundations

Long before electronic music, Jason was classically trained — piano, flute, violin and more, performing in orchestras and ensembles while soaking up rock, punk, ska and heavy metal. His introduction to dance music came in the late 1980s working weekends at Melbourne's legendary Central Station Records, right as house, hip house, techno and rave culture were exploding into the city.

  2. 02

    The Rave Explosion

As Melbourne's rave scene gathered momentum in the early '90s, Jason became a fixture of it — DJing, writing for Inpress magazine, and broadcasting on the iconic Kiss FM. Technical skill behind the decks, paired with an instinct for reading a crowd, made him one of the city's leading underground DJs.

  3. 03

Sound Of Now & Bass Station

Recognising the scene needed stronger infrastructure, Jason founded Sound Of Now Productions, launching numerous events before creating Bass Station — a club brand that became one of Australia's most celebrated hard trance and hard dance institutions. From 1998, Bass Station ran multiple rooms of trance, hard trance, psytrance, hard NRG, house and drum & bass — a launching pad and a home for a generation of Melbourne DJs.

  4. 04

    Festivals & Main Stages

Jason has played many of Australia's biggest electronic music events — Summer Dayze, Gatecrasher, Two Tribes, Slinky, GodsKitchen, Earthcore, Street Rave, Every Picture Tells A Story and Welcome — from intimate underground clubs to major festival main stages.

  5. 05

Ministry of Sound & Hard NRG

Through his work with Ministry of Sound, Jason's Hard NRG compilation series became one of Australia's defining dance collections — selling more than 700,000 copies and introducing a generation of ravers to the harder edge of trance. The series remains one of the country's most successful dance releases, still regarded as a classic of the era.

  6. 06

    Radio, Artists & Mentorship

Beyond DJing, Jason has consistently championed Australian electronic artists through radio, artist development, promotion and record labels. His long-running Sound Of Now program on Kiss FM has showcased emerging producers alongside international names, while mentoring younger DJs has helped sustain Melbourne's status as an electronic music capital.

  7. 07

    Now — Dance Music Australia

Jason has returned to production with renewed focus, releasing original house, trance and progressive material while performing throughout Australia. He is the founder of Dance Music Australia (DMA) — connecting veteran pioneers with emerging talent to preserve and grow the country's dance music legacy.
