Kiss FM

Melbourne's original dance music radio station.

Founded in its original form as Kiss 90 FM in 1994 before relaunching as KISS FM Australia in 2005, KISS FM has become Australia's premier independent dance music radio station. Broadcasting across Melbourne on 87.6–88.0 FM and streaming worldwide, the station has built its reputation by championing underground electronic music rather than commercial playlists.

INDEPENDENT BY DESIGN

A platform for every corner of the scene.

Unlike mainstream broadcasters, KISS FM provides a platform for DJs, producers, promoters and artists from every corner of electronic music — including house, trance, techno, progressive, hard dance, drum & bass, breaks, psytrance and many other genres. Over the past two decades, the station has become an essential part of Melbourne's dance music ecosystem, helping launch careers, promote local events and connect Australia's electronic music community with audiences around the world.

STILL INDEPENDENT

Melbourne's original dance music radio station.

Entirely independent, KISS FM continues to support Melbourne's vibrant underground scene through specialist programming, live broadcasts, artist interviews and community engagement — earning its reputation as "Melbourne's original dance music radio station."

A LONGSTANDING PARTNERSHIP

Jason Midro and KISS FM

Jason Midro's relationship with KISS FM spans more than two decades and reflects his lifelong commitment to Melbourne's electronic music community. As one of the station's longest-serving presenters, Midro used the KISS FM platform to champion Australian electronic music while introducing listeners to new artists, emerging genres and the latest developments in dance culture.

Having established himself during Melbourne's early rave movement as a DJ, promoter and music journalist, Midro joined KISS FM to extend his influence beyond the nightclub. While Bass Station was filling dancefloors every weekend, KISS FM allowed him to reach audiences every week, sharing the music and culture that defined Melbourne's underground scene.

THE SHOW

Sound Of Now — 15+ years on air.

For more than 15 years, Midro hosted Sound Of Now, one of KISS FM's longest-running specialist electronic music programs. The show became a respected platform for progressive house, trance, hard dance and cutting-edge electronic music, while also featuring interviews, guest mixes and exclusive content from Australian and international artists. Throughout its long run, Sound Of Now embodied Midro's philosophy of showcasing the latest innovations in electronic music while remaining connected to the culture that inspired it.

Throughout its broadcast history, Sound Of Now introduced countless new releases to Melbourne audiences, promoted local events, highlighted emerging Australian producers and gave established artists a respected platform to present their latest work. It became an important outlet for independent electronic music at a time when mainstream radio offered very little exposure to underground dance genres.

BEYOND THE BOOTH

Strengthening radio and club culture together.

Midro's influence at KISS FM extended well beyond hosting his own program. As one of Australia's best-known DJs and promoters, he regularly collaborated with the station through live broadcasts, special events, artist interviews and guest appearances — helping strengthen the connection between Melbourne's radio community and its thriving club culture.

His work as founder of Sound Of Now Productions, Bass Station, and later Dance Music Australia, naturally complemented his broadcasting career. Through KISS FM he helped promote countless club nights, festivals, charity events and community initiatives while supporting fellow DJs, promoters and producers across Melbourne's electronic music scene.

BACKING AUSTRALIAN TALENT

Early airplay, before anyone else would.

One of Midro's greatest contributions was his unwavering support of Australian talent. Long before streaming platforms and social media gave artists direct access to audiences, Sound Of Now provided local producers with valuable radio exposure. Many Melbourne artists received some of their earliest airplay through the program, helping establish careers that would later grow nationally and internationally.

THE LEGACY

Fifteen years, documented.

Although Sound Of Now has since concluded, its legacy continues through the artists it supported and the listeners it inspired. Across more than fifteen years on air, the program became one of KISS FM's most recognised specialist dance music shows — documenting the evolution of Melbourne's electronic music scene while celebrating both its pioneers and its future. His years behind the microphone helped reinforce KISS FM's reputation as Australia's leading independent electronic music broadcaster, and cemented his own place as one of Melbourne's most respected ambassadors for dance music culture.
